He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Berning and Frances Berning; his wife Sally Berning; and his sisters, Rita Wuebker, Lois Hoffman and Lorraine Gehling.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Berning (Naomi) of Houston, TX, Kevin Berning of Carroll, Richard Berning of Carroll, Karen Smith (Tom) of Chester, VA, Sharon Stickrod (Keith) of Carroll and Scott Berning of Pella; and his brother Leo Berning (Mary Jo) of Arcadia. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
