He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Janning and Theodora R. Janning (Schoeppner); his wife Arlene Remm (Surman); his sons, Bernard Troy and Kevin; his stepson Ronald Remm; his granddaughter Allia Janning; his siblings, Dorothy Becker (Art), Louise Grossman (Darol), John Janning (Mary Ann), Lawrence Janning (Jean), Jerome Janning, Kenny Janning (June), Lowell Janning and Ernest Janning; and his siblings-in-law, Deloris Wortman, Kathleen Bunn, Norbert Surman and Wilfred Surman.

He is survived by: his children, Sheila Walker of St. Petersburg, FL, Kreg Janning (Katherine) of Appomattox, VA and Darrin Janning (Sheila) of Carroll; his stepchildren, Gerry Remm (Brenda) of Arlington, NE, Lou Ann Carter (Rick) of Lincoln, NE and Donna Hanson (Darin) of Lincoln, NE; his sister Lois Mein (Dan) of Leavenworth, KS; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, Diane Janning of Glidden and Julia Janning of Glidden. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, more extended family and countless friends.
