He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles McAlpine and Eleanor McAlpine (Heimez); his brothers, Dan and Ken; and his great grandchild Scarlett Rose McAlpine.

He is survived by: his wife Randa Obermiller; his sons, Douglas of Rohnert Park, CA and Brian (Jenny Doyle) of Clinton, IA; his grandson Vince McAlpine (Stephanie Luett) of North Liberty, IA; and his great grandchild Logan.
