He was predeceased by: his father Millard "Bud" Berry, Jr.; and his stepfather Michael Leroy Walser. He is survived by: his mother Randi Berry, Jr. (Loftsgard); his children, Jordyn and Mason; his fiancée Leann Sanders of Bussey; his fiancée's children, Jordyn and Mason; his stepmother Teresa Berry; his brothers, Daniel Berry of Cedar Rapids and Nicholas Berry (Marla) of Cedar Rapids; his nephew Walter; and his niece Alice Berry.

Memorials may be given in James' memory to his family and will be decided at a later date.
