With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph Whalen Jr. of Burr Oak, Iowa, who passed away on November 22, 2024 at the age of 63. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Whalen and Doris Whalen (Wernet); his brother Phillip Whalen; his parents-in-law, Darrell Bruening and Juanita Bruening; his brother-in-law Tim Schmitt; his niece Chris Kemna (Carolan); and his pets, Odie, Molly and Rooney.

He is survived by: his child Jamie Darrell of Spillville, IA; his wife Darcy (Bruening); his children, Amber Christopher (Chance) of Decorah, IA and Aubrey Whalen (Zeb Holkesvik) of Decorah, IA.; his grandchildren, Riley Christopher and Nora Whalen; his siblings, Rosella Carolan (Greg) of Decorah, IA, Dennis Whalen of Harmony, MN, Linda Fishbaugher (Ron) of Harmony, MN, Tom Whalen (Marsha) of Preston, MN, Lori Pfremmer (Fred) of Preston, Blaine Whalen (Kathy) of Harmony, MN and Keri Whalen (Connie) of Burr Oak, IA.; and his siblings-in-law, Debbie Masias (Mark) of Colorado Springs, CO, Denise Schmitt (Tim) of Cresco, IA. and Jed Johnson (Sam Pierce) of Dyersville, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
