He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Glenn Carlson and Maxine Johnston Carlson; his sisters, Joyce and Carol; his wife Jane Lindberg; his children, Karen Gilson (Rick) of Prairie City, Scott Carlson (Shelly) and Chad Carlson (Sherri) of Bondurant; and his grandchildren, Gabe Gilson, Joe Gilson, John Carlson, Zoe Carlson, Abbi Gilson, Hope Carlson, Lindey Carlson, Grace Carlson and Faith Carlson. He was also cherished by nine grandchildren.
