She was predeceased by: her parents, Olaf Berg and Sadie Berg (Oxenfield); her husband Verne; her son Dennis Hitsman; her granddaughter Rebecca Smalley; her son-in-law Bill Smalley; and her siblings, Sylvan Berg, Stella Busby, Omer Berg, Inger Scurek, Viola Echelberger, Virginia Krull, Betty Berg and Byrdie "Bea" Imlay.
She is survived by: her children, Terry Hitsman (Dawn) of Boone and Cindy Smalley of Boone; her daughter-in-law Jane Hitsman of Boone; her sister Ruby Grover of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren, Nicholas Hitsman (Kaleigh) of Ankeny, Lisa Mount (Brett) of Boone, Joel Hitsman of Boone, Emily Lebo (Scott) of Des Moines, Sarah Knowler (Joe) of Russell, Mindy Smalley (Christine) of Sarasota, Christy Boyd (Dan) of Boone and Amanda Schroeder (Justin) of Boone. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
