He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Root and Gertrude Root (Kraft); his sisters, Ellen June Root and Marion Margaret Root; and his great grandchildren, James and Carson Barnhardt.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Neil Logue, Bridgette Morgan (Dakota), Cassidy Bristow (Zachary), Darby Rourick (Robert Zappaterrini), Brittany Barnhardt (Braden), Britany Faatz (Jesse), Aleia Salazar, Skylar Root and Jacob Root.
In lieu of flowers, he has requested memorials be sent to: the Boone County Humane Society, in Boone, IA, Saint Jude's Children Hospital, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
