He is survived by: his wife Sharon of Boone; his son Kenny Karpin of Des Moines; and his stepchildren, Don, Randy, Jessica Cox of Boone, John Roden, Debbie Yoder of Des Moines and Terry Christenson of Kansas. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gideons International and The Salvation Army in Boone.
