He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Cornelis and Augusta Cornelis (VanKerkvoorde); his wife Shirley Shoemaker of Michael's Church; and his brothers, Victor, Julien, Achiel and Maurice.

He is survived by: his sons, James Cornelis of Ames, Michael Cornelis (Jill) of Boone and Robert Cornelis (JoAnn) of Boone; his grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan, Jacy, Joey, Clay and Maggie; and his great grandchild Ezra.

A rosary was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 4:30 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel (1006 6th St, Boone, IA 50036). Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (915 12th St, Boone, IA 50036).

He was an active member of the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa, receiving the Excellence Award for his contributions to the Society in 1981.
