He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Lyons and Charlotte Lyons (Parks); his former wife Teri Hopkins of Boone; and his sister Kathleen. He is survived by: his wife Sandy Hanawalt; his children, Steve Lyons of Ogden, Brad Lyons (Nicole) of Ogden and Sheri Spence (Mike) of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Tyler, Logan (Kelsey), Jace, Zach, Neveah, Qyra and Ashlynn; his great grandchildren, Rilan, Jayden and Landon; his siblings, Patrick Lyons of Arnolds Park and Joyce Patterson (Randy) of Boone; his children, Shawn Snyder (Scott), Milissa Kline (Kris) and Kelly Lyons (Tonya); and his stepchildren, Kelley Birchmier (Shain), Ed Baldwin and Mike Baldwin (Alyson).
He died March 24, 2021 after a 3-week fight against COVID-19 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Boone Area Humane Society or to local food pantries in memory of Don Lyons.
