She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Otis Grotrian and Frances Grotrian (Riensche); her husband Peter Nelson; her daughter Pamela Jeanne Nelson-Grotrian; her son-in-law Leland Lynde; her son Paul William Nelson; her daughter-in-law Julie Nelson; her brothers, Gordon Grotrian and Keith Grotrian; and her siblings-in-law, Bert, Marilynn Grotrian, Alice, Don Harrington, Jim, Cathy Nelson and John Nelson. She was also cherished by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Boone or the Boone and Story County Cares (Child Abuse Resource and Educational Services).
