Jane Littrel Obituary
Jane Littrel, 61, of Blue Grass, IA passed away January 15, 2012 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at St. Andrew"s Church, Blue Grass, IA. Visitation will be 4-7pm on Friday at St. Andrew"s Church. Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery, Blue Grass, IA. Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline is assisting with arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established. Jane Minor Littrel was born on Friday, June 16th, 1950 in Clinton, IA to Warren and Mary "Madge" Pinter Minor. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Moline, IL and graduated in 1968 from Alleman High School, Rock Island, IL. She was the youngest member of the Quad City Redbirds (Sexton Ford Redbirds) ASA softball team.
She was nicknamed "Baby Jane" by her teammates. This nickname has stuck with her throughout the years. Her hobbies included traveling, bowling (in her younger years), softball and playing on the computer. She loved the, Chicago Cubs, St Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls. She was proud of the fact that she had visited every state including Alaska.
Most of the trips centered on going to the national conventions for the NAPUS postmasters including a trip to Hawaii in 1991. In October of 2006 she took a once in a lifetime trip to Burbank, California to see The Ellen DeGeneres Show in person and also Jay Leno. It was an awesome trip for her and Al. She married Alvin Littrel On November 7th, 1970 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline, IL with the Reverend Robert E Lee officiating.
She was blessed with two sons, Jeffrey Warren and Timothy John. Jane worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years. She was postmaster in Blue Grass for 24 years, retiring in December, 2005. She was active in the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS) serving in various positions in the State of Iowa, including editor of the Hawkeye Postmaster, secretary-treasurer and vice president of the Iowa chapter.
In 1993, Jane was named Postmaster of the Year, Central Region, comprising of the 13 Midwest states. She was presented the John D Fitzgerald award for editorial excellence at the 1993 national convention in Boston. She loved her many NAPUS friends across the United States. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Jane was a member of the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary, NARFE, and NAPUS (National Association of Postmasters of the United States.
She served as past secretary-treasurer and president, board of directors, Southwest Little League: past secretary-treasurer, Blue Grass Little League; past vice-president and president Blue Grass Lioness Club; past secretary-treasurer, Blue Grass Chamber Of Commerce; past fund raising chairperson for the Lioness and Little League.
She was a volunteer for The Race for the Cure in 2001-2009 Jane is survived by her husband, Alvin, son Jeff and his children Stephanie Lynn and Anthony Joseph, Davenport, IA; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Monica Littrel, Cedar Rapids, IA; along with special friends, Janet and Roger Huisinga, Boone, IA; Pat and Julie Plunkett, Rock Island, IL; Dave and Linda Massarini, Nevada, IA and John and Laurel Schlump, Charles City, IA; Mary and Art Nadeau, Hartford, VT; Mary and John Brus, Stockton, IA; along with hundreds of NAPUS postmasters across the United States.
Brothers--Wayne and his wife Lil, Geneseo, IL; Larry, Moline, IL; Douglas and his wife Lisa, Morning Sun, IA; Brother-in-law, Joe Torres, Moline, IL; several nieces and nephews and a special godchild, Stephanie Minor Haezebroeck, Johnston, IA; godfather, Richard "Dick" Pinter, Dewitt, IA; along with Aunt Jane, and Aunt Meryl.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Minor, mother, Madge Minor, sister, Mary Ann Torres, sister-in-law, Ruth (Cookie) Langdon Minor and her grandparents. May they rest in peace.
