He was predeceased by: his parents, Art William and Rose Emma Beggs Schlarbaum; his siblings-in-law, Gail Christy and Jeanne Schlarbaum; and his great grandchild Caden Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Schlarbaum of Bloomfield; his children, Kirk Schlarbaum (Deanne) of Danville, Iowa and Kristi Archer (Dan Ratcliff) of Brooklyn, Iowa; his grandchildren, Bradley Schlarbaum (Kelli), Andrew Schlarbaum, Abby Johnson (Chase), Emily Archer Bodey (Rick) and Wade Archer (Alyssa Derrick); his great grandchildren, Julia, Michael Schlarbaum, Ryker, Conner Johnson, Elizabeth, Lucille Bodey and Lucas Archer; and his siblings, Max Schlarbaum (Carolyn) of Mesa, Tom Schlarbaum of Riverview, Florida, Dolores Christy of Mesa and Jan Herkelman (Robert) of Brandon, Florida..
