He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Hand and May Hand; his brother Derald Hand; his son-in-law James Pearson; and his grandson Aaron Dieckman.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Ann Baalman (Betty); his siblings, James Hand (Twila) of North Platte, NE and Lavaun Beyer of North Platte, NE; his daughters, Vicki Dieckman (David) of Overland Park, KS, Cindi Coe (William) of Huntersville, NC, Catherine Bosco (Bob) of Davenport, Julie Parsons (Brad) of Naperville, IL and Lori Dondanville (Don) of Davenport; and his great grandchildren, Jennifer Cooke (Sean), Stephanie Zeller (Mark), Scott Bosco (Brianna), Hannah Bosco, Jack, Ben, Ellee Parsons, Matthew, Lydia Ernster, Ryan, Addison, Caitlin Cooke, Logan Dieckman and Natalie Bosco.

Memorials may be made in Vernon's name to the ARC of Scott County or the Handicapped Development Center.
