He is survived by: his son Dwight; his wife Bobbi Tyrrell of Belmond; his children, Doug Tyrrell (Marilyn) of Millersburg, Tom Tyrrell (Pam) of Clarion, Jim Tyrrell (Dorothy) of New Rochelle, Alan Tyrrell (Sarah) of Dixon and Claire McNear (Patrick) of Greeley, Colorado; and his sister Marion Koontz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Belmond Ambulance or the Holmes Christmas Club.
