He is survived by: his wife Donna VerHelst; his children, Troy VerHelst (Gloria) and Katie Schlichting (Marc); his granddaughters, Morgan Schlichting (Alex Ferdinand), Briana VerHelst and Piper Schlichting; his siblings, Deb Sankey of Fort Dodge, IA and Dean VerHelst of Algona, IA.; and his brother-in-law Dennis Rink.
A wake was held on Monday, November 25th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the Ewing Funeral Home (111 Luick's Ln S, Belmond, IA 50421). Visitation was held on Monday, November 25th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, November 26th 2024 at 9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, November 26th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (1207 3rd St NE, Belmond, IA 50421).
