He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Matthews and Ilene Matthews (Ballard); his wife Sharon S. Simpson; his brother Michael; and his sister-in-law Sheryl Matthews.
He is survived by: his sons, John (Muna) of Hiawatha, Stephen of Bellevue, Richard of Dubuque and Will of Bellevue; his brother David Matthews of Hiawatha; and his sister-in-law Janeen Matthews of Woodbridge, Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
