He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Walton; and his sister Gloria Dean Goerish. He is survived by: his children, Donny Carl (Heather) of Belle Plaine, Russ Gunderson (Marilee) of Mt Auburn, David Carl of Belle Plaine, Buck Carl (Tricia) of Belle Plaine, Julie Mantz (Craig) of Belle Plaine and Kris Sherwood (Chad) of Atkins; his grandchildren, Jessie, Steve, Dani, Zach, Larissa, Devin, Drew, Keaton, Brandon and Kenzie; his great grandchildren, Taytin, Brodie, Jake, Dreya, Jaylee and Jace; and his siblings, Larry Carl of Atkins and Nona Paulsen of Belle Plaine.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Metro Parkinson's Association or St. Luke's Hospice.
