He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul and Isabell; and his siblings, Lawrence, Laura, Jean, Esther, Ruth, Stella, Robert, Keith and John.

He is survived by: his sister Joyce (Marvin); his former wives, Barbara DeLong and Trudy; his children, Lori (Lee) of Ames, Jolene (David) of Johnstown, CO and Sam (Brinda) of Walnut; and his grandchildren, Brandi, Dan, Skylar and Luke.
