He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Gibson and Leona Gibson (Schweitzer); and his siblings-in-law, Doris Gibson and Don Meythaler. He is survived by: his spouse Katherine Johnson; his grandchild Julie (Brian); his daughters, Shannon and Sidney of Bettendorf; his siblings, Vicky Meythaler of Independence, Lanny Gibson (Maryann) of Elgin and Joe Gibson of Wadena; and also Katherine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Camp Ewalu, or the Oelwein VFW.
