He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Cappel and Lavonne Cappel (Glazier); his brother Dick; his sister-in-law Diane Cappel; his in-laws, Russell and Maxine Orstad; and his brother-in-law Dean Orstad.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Orstad; his children, Kelly (John), Tom II (Wendy), Tim, Trent (Crystal), Troy (Megan) and Todd; his grandchildren, Colton, Aaron, ReAnn, Trey, Tenley, Tate, Chase and Sloane; his sister Carol Emmert (Fred); and his sister-in-law Diane Petty (Duane). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home - Atlantic (1804 E 7th St, Atlantic, IA 50022). A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the First United Methodist Church (800 Poplar St, Atlantic, IA 50022). A committal service will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM at the Atlantic Cemetery (63119 White Pole Rd, Atlantic, IA 50022). A reception will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church (800 Poplar St, Atlantic, IA 50022). A burial will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at the Atlantic Cemetery (63119 White Pole Rd, Atlantic, IA 50022).
