He was predeceased by: his parents, Heyo Hedeman and Tini Hedeman (Kleen); his sisters, Inga Schreiber and Gisela Hemken; and his siblings-in-law, Helmut Hemken, Lynn Boyer and Sylvia Straub.

He is survived by: his wife Diane Straub; his sons, Dean Stein (Joni) and Jay Stein (Wendy); and his brothers-in-law, Duane Straub and Johannes Schreiber. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.
