He was predeceased by: his parents, Elvin Oscar and Robina Nora Elmquist (Nelson); his brother Edward; and his sister-in-law Lyla Elmquist. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Kay Cary; his son Keith Elmquist (Joanie) of Dallas Center, Iowa; his grandson Josh Elmquist (Lindy); his great grandchildren, Elaina and Dominic of Grimes; his grandson Jake Elmquist (Maria); his great grandchild Maya of Waterloo; his grandson Adam Elmquist (Morgan); his great grandchildren, Kurtis and Alice of Johnston, Iowa; and his brother Don Elmquist (Julie) of Albuquerque. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation to the Atlantic Elks Lodge No. 445 and First Church of Christ in Atlantic.
