He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Alphonse and Marie Erger (Voss); his brother Donald Erger; and his son-in-law Stacey Kusel. He is survived by: his wife Becky of Newhall; his children, Beth Kusel of Vinton, Traci Rhodes (Tyler) of Surprise, AZ, Paul Erger (Jess Andrew) of Newhall, Carrie Horman (Nate) of Roland, IA and Amy Erger of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Zach Kusel, Nolan, Brayden Rhodes, Ashlyn, Caden Erger, Tate Kettler, Stephan, Levi and Antonieo Salyars; and his sister Jean Hlas (Stanley) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
