He was predeceased by: his father Lawrence Grote; his grandparents, Elizabeth Grote, Claus and Anna Julius; his parents-in-law, Martin and Helen Vlaming; and his brothers-in-law, Ron Vlaming and Leroy Hoffman.
He is survived by: his mother Shirlene Grote (Julius) of Sibley, IA; his former wives, Mary Gacke and Susan Keller; his wife Sue; his sons, Tony Grote of Dansville, AL and Chris Grote (Kristina) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Dallas, Ethan, Libby and Emmalee; his stepchildren, Shane Langholz of Milford, IA and Nicole Vlaming of Renton, WA; and his sisters, Laura Hoffman of Sibley, IA, Diana Lemke (Steve) of Omaha, NE, Mary Toay of Spencer, IA, Carla Croatt (Rich) of Sibley, IA and Susan Dreessen (Bradd) of Sibley, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
