He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Carl and Margaret Anna Schmidt (Lauck); his former wife Arla Schmidt; and his brother-in-law Robert Longmuir. He is survived by: his spouse Arla Stegen; his children, Arlington, Ty Schmidt (Sylvia) of Janesville and Valerie Brooks (Doug) of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Chelsea, Rory, Logan, Kiersten, Erika Schmidt, Maggie and Jack Brooks; his sisters, Dorothy Ann Nus (Alvin) of North Carolina and Janice Longmuir of Minnesota; and his close friend Jean Cue of Oelwein. He is also survived by Many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.
Due to Covid 19, the church requests, inside the church, those that have been vaccinated may choose to wear a mask or not and highly recommends that those who have not been vaccinated to wear a mask for the safety of the entire group.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established for the St. John Lutheran Church.
