He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Clyde Cole and Verna Houge Cole; his wife Donna Sparks of Boone, IA; his children, Connie Cole of Des Moines, IA, Christin Cole of Urbandale, IA, William Cole (Arleen) of Phoenix, AZ, Steven Cole (Kathy) of Clive, IA and Kent Cole (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids, IA; his great grandchild Ashlee Lund; and his daughter-in-law Donna Jean Cole. He was also cherished by eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
