He was predeceased by: his parents, James McCarty and Berenice McCarty; and his brother Donald McCarty. He is survived by: his wife Janet Roberts; his children, Diane Brown (Jim), Carolyn Wilson (Chris), Mary Cory (Jeff), James "Jim" McCarty III and Joe McCarty (Lori); and his brother Larry McCarty (Cathy).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA 50023). A rosary was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E 1st St, Ankeny, IA 50021). A burial was held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 12:45 PM at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel, IA 50003). A reception was held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the American Legion Post 403 (910 Main St, Van Meter, IA 50261).
