It is with great sadness that we announce the death of George William Shidler of Ankeny, Iowa, who passed away on April 14, 2021, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Shidler and Frances Shidler (Stalcup); his stepmother Elgin Shidler (Bisby); his mother-in-law Frances Holt; his siblings-in-law, Bobbi Shidler, Diane Holt, Peter Holt and Glenn Jacobsen; and his niece Rachel Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Rachel; his sons, Dave Shidler (Cynthia) of Altoona and Brad Shidler (Kelli) of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Lindsay Shidler, Cameron Shidler, Evan Shidler, Ella Shidler and Emery Shidler; his siblings, Sam Scheidler and Sue Schumacher (Carl); and his siblings-in-law, Priscilla Jacobsen, Mary Anne, Martha Thompson, Scott and Robert Thompson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“Dear family of George Shidler, my sympathy in your loss. When i read that he operated McClung Grain Co., i thought of my special friend Mary McClung Pleshek. I know she was born in Elkhart and i wonder if you were related? it would mean a great deal to me to know. Mary married Lyle Pleshek and they lived in Oelwein (where I live) until her death several years ago. She studied music at Drake University c. 1932 and used her gifts to our church and our community's great benefit. Sue Sharp Johnson”
