He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Hartley Bennie and Sarah Hartley; and his siblings, Florence Wheeler, Joe Hartley, Alvin Hartley, Dwight, Dorman and Donald.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne Hartley of Ankeny; his children, Todd Hartley (Jennifer) of Ankeny, Don Hartley (Carolyn) of Carlisle, Candace Hartley, Mary Eblen (Mike) of Des Moines and Denise Ratzlaff (Rex) of Ankeny; and his sisters, Alice Kahler of Cambridge, Patricia Taylor of Maxwell, Louise Burandt of Mission Texas and Linda Eden (Denny) of Conroy. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
