He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Hitz and Wilma Hitz (Thornton). He is survived by: his wife Sharon Weiss of Garner; his son Bryan; his sister Deanna Darrah; his nephew Kevin Stuart (Shannon); his nieces, Kathy Hamilton (Scott) and Elaine Rasmussen (Jeff); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Danielle Stoppelmoor, Anne Stuart, Ben Stuart, Derek Stuart, Jon Hamilton, Ryan Rasmussen and Mathew Rasmussen; his sons, Philip and Bryce; and his brothers-in-law, Ray Stuart and Jim Darrah.

Memorials may be directed to Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, Lutheran World Relief (World Hunger), or EveryStep Hospice.
