He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans Petersen and Lena Petersen (Hessenius); his son Jack; his brothers, Harold, Willie and Ralph; and his friend Paul Riggs.
He is survived by: his wife Bernice; his children, Dave (Sandy), Blairstown, Rick (Carol), Barb Garling (Dennis), Belle Plaine, Diane Blue (Tim), Marshalltown, Jim (Lori), Brighton, Amy Moore (Anthony) and Anamosa; and his sisters, Leona Danker, Marengo Hupfeldt, Frances Hupfeldt (Melvin) and Van Horne. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.
