She was predeceased by: her parents, John Gildersleeve and Bessie Gildersleeve; her husband Lester Shickell; and her great grandchild Lily Caroline. She is survived by: her children, Steven Shickell (Julie), Marilyn Anderson (John), Patricia Ashby (Ed) and Joyce Nichols (John).

Ruth was awarded the 2004 Governor's Volunteer Award and was honored in 2017 by RSVP for volunteering over 20 years.
