He was predeceased by: his father David Stephen Gates. He is survived by: his mother Margaret Byrd Gates (Miller) of Oregon; his pet Goldie; his wife Celia Gates of Illinois; his siblings, John Gates (Cathryn) of Massachusetts, David Jr. Gates (Donna) of California, Will Gates (Kerri) of Australia, Ted Gates (Linda) of Michigan and Lois Gates of Oregon; his adoptive daughter Yijie Xiong of Nebraska; and his nephews, Sam Gates (Amanda) of Idaho and Henry Gates (Paige) of New Jersey.
