He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bernard Shields and Magdalene Shields (Phillips); and his siblings, Joseph, Jerald, Stephen, Michael Shields and Madonna Junker.
He is survived by: his wife Gladie of Fairbank; his daughters, Nancy Levis (Rob) of Vinton and Shari Wood (Stuart) of Iowa City; his grandchildren, Robert Levis, Johnathan Levis (Kristin), Ryan Levis, Emily Levis and Miles Wood; his siblings, John Shields of Oelwein, Justin Shields of Cedar Rapids, Maurice Shields (Diane), Robert Shields of Fairbank, Mary Berg (Norman), Margaret McAllister (Joe) of Florida and Maureen White (Roger) of Cedar Falls; and his sister-in-law Kathie Shields of Waverly.
