He was predeceased by: his parents, James C. Olson and Millie B. Olson; his siblings, Melvin Olson, Irene Billings and Almira Holt; and his nephew Gregory.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Marie Erickson; his sons, Douglas Eugene, Gregory Scott and Michael Lyndon; his grandson Dan; his great grandchildren, Annika and Asher; his grandchildren, Megan Johnson and Daniel Olson; his great grandchild Lyra Johnson; and also, Elaine, LeRoy and Janet.
The family, following Gene's wishes, has designated St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Iowa State Fair Beef Breeds Division for memorial contributions.
