He was predeceased by: his parents, John Beran and Elizabeth Beran; his daughter-in-law Dolores Hall Beran; his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Beran and Ed Tonjes; and his grandson Benjamin Beran.
He is survived by: his wife Jan; his children, Bruce David Beran of Takoma Park, Anne Elizabeth Stark (Terry) of Nevada and George Stuart Beran (Jennifer) of Apple Valley; his grandchildren, Teran Stark, Daniel Stark (Meg), Katherine Sutton (Nick), Abigail, Joseph (Sarah) and Jack Beran; his great grandchildren, Abel, Wesley, Kayce Sutton and Kirby Lee George-Stark; his brother John Beran (Rita); and his siblings-in-law, Bonnie Bailey, Darlene Wallinga, Mary Van Zomeren, Dick Van Zomeren (Joey) and Mark Van Zomeren (Renae).
Visitation was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Northminster Presbyterian Church (1416 20th St, Ames, IA 50010). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
He was active in professional organizations holding several elective offices and received national awards for his contributions to veterinary public health. Among them was the International Veterinary Congress Prize in recognition of his lifetime contribution to international animal and human health.
