He was predeceased by: his parents, Arne Swanson and Alice Swanson (Safly); and his brother-in-law Melvin Nutt. He is survived by: his wife Mary of Luther; his children, Christine Holm (Robert) and Aaron Swanson (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Kyler, Karsten Holm, Jordan, Anna and Grace Swanson; and his sisters-in-law, Beverly Nutt and Ilene Mustapha. He is also survived by three nieces and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bliss Cancer Center.
