He was predeceased by: his parents, Amina Sami Tabatabai and Abdul Hussein Al-Tabatabai; and his siblings, Ibrahim, Zakina, Rabab, Saffia and Fakhria.
He is survived by: his wife Louisa (Braal); his children, Fareed (Cara), Layth (Ann) and Janine (Tom); his grandchildren, Justin, Taylor, Nicole (Chris Blythe), Ramsey (Taylor), AJ, Rachel, Jenna, Barron and Zaid; and his brothers, Kasim (Donna) of Austin Texas and Tahir (Rabab) of London, UK. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
