He was predeceased by: his father Ralph Karlan. He is survived by: his children, Charisse Vickerman (Shawn) and Shaun Karlan (Tess); his grandson Wyatt Vickerman of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Juanita Richman (Lynn) of Iowa City, Kevin (Diane) of Ely, Dennis (Julie) of Cedar Rapids and Steve (Jodi) of Tucson, AZ; his pet Rhett; his mother Mary Ellen Reindl Karlan; and his wife Nadine Beranek. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
