He was predeceased by: his mother Etta Johnson (Dickman); his wife Leona Mae Rodman; his father Carl Johnson; his siblings, Donald Johnson and Glada Peters; his nephew Terry Fober; and his niece Lola Peters.

He is survived by: his children, Jay Johnson (Linda) of Allison, Jamie Walters (Clint) of Billings and Jim Johnson (Georgene) of Allison; his grandchildren, Jason Johnson (Jenn) of Clarksville, Jeremy Johnson (Kara) of Clarksville, Justin Johnson (Laura) of Allison, Matt Johnson (Brittini) of Allison, Melissa Sudol (Collin) of Nashua and Marc Johnson (Ali) of Clarksville; and his sister Gloria Fober of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
