He was predeceased by: his parents, Orie Petersen and Dorothy Petersen (Bonnett); his daughter Vickie Elbert; and his siblings, Harold, Darreld, Bobby, Donald Petersen and Sandy Dehler.
He is survived by: his wife Irene Opheim; his children, Kevin Petersen of Cedar Rapids and Melissa Rash (Kevin) of Algona; his son-in-law Randy Elbert of Bondurant; and his siblings, Jerry Petersen of Waukee, Sharon Fagan of Madrid, Betty Johnson (Bill) of Algona and Rose Ann Fokken of Algona. He is also survived by numerous nephews, and nieces, along with other family members.
