He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbert and Dorothy Hoover (Wilkin); and his stepmother Thelma Hoover. He is survived by: his wife Martha Ellen Smith of Albia; his children, Lisa Shepard (Mark) of Albia and Joe Hoover (Danielle) of Albia; his grandchildren, John Shepard, Zachary and Madeline Hoover; and his sister Susan Voss of Moravia. He is also survived by step brother and step sisters; and several cousins.
A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia.
