He is survived by: his wife Deb Shehan of Albia; his son Troy Shehan of Iowa City; and his siblings, Pat Shehan (Linda) of Ottumwa, Bill Shehan (Dana) of Fort Madison and Marsha Leffler (Randy) of Albia. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia.
