He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Joseph and Anna Catherine O'Brien (Kearney); his wife Doris Geraldine Garrett; his sister Virgene Lenger; his sister-in-law Agnes Conley O'Brien; his aunts, Margaret Blubaugh, Veronica Gildersleeve and Elizabeth Kearney; his nephews, Paul, Gary and John Walter Lenger; and his great-nephew Andrew Gvist.
He is survived by: his son Michael O'Brien of Ottumwa, IA; and his siblings, John O'Brien of Albion, IA and Mary Jo Mitterer (Gary) of Fremont, IA.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Albia Museum.
