He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Smith-DeMoss and Ruby Smith-DeMoss; his stepfather Lyman DeMoss; his siblings, Walter "Benny" Smith and Carla Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Terry Kirby and Linda Smith.
He is survived by: his close friend Jodi Criswell of Albia; his daughter Heather Steele (Justin) of Fremont; his stepchildren, Jackie Criswell (Dan) of Oskaloosa, Jamie Brown (Quinten) of Oskaloosa, Jessie Criswell (Nathan) of Eddyville and Garrett Luckett of Oskaloosa; and his siblings, Raymond "Gary" Smith of Avery, Lola Kirby of Eddville, Terry Smith of Fredrick and Connie Chichester of Avery. He is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces.
