She was loved and cherished by many people including: her siblings, Earl, Hazel Merrigan (Blair), Vernon Merrigan of Benson, AZ, Stanley Merrigan (Carolyn) of Alcester, SD, Jim Merrigan of Vermillion, SD, Liz Merrigan of Burbank, SD, Ethel Northwall (Bill) of St. Petersburg, FL, Margaret Smith of Milwaukee, WI and JoAnn Merrigan of Savannah, GA; her parents-in-law, Ray, Lily Hartmann, Penny Hartmann and Bonnie Hartmann; her great-niece Virginia; her parents, Earl Merrigan and Hazel Merrigan; her husband Ed Hartmann; her siblings, Mary O'Neil, Jeannie Girard, Sterling "Bud" Merrigan, Jeff Merrigan and Maurice Merrigan; her siblings-in-law, Terry O'Neil, Warren Smith, Jayne Merrigan, Yvonne Merrigan and Dorene Merrigan; and her nephew Tregg Merrigan. She was also cherished by nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Virginia's name to the Akron Public Library, 350 Reed Street, Akron, IA 51001.
