He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Dirks and Maude Dirks (Richards); his parent-in-law Aldea Donnelly; his wife Helen Dirks; his granddaughter Megan Dirks; his sister Betty De Roos (Bill); his nephew Dirk DeRoos; and his parents-in-law, Lawrence Donnelly (Eileen), Jack Donnelly (Retha), Darlene Maloney (John), Joe Donnelly, George Donnelly and Jack Growbeck.
He is survived by: his children, Carla Granstrom of Dakota Dunes, SD, Mary Caskey (Mike) of Akron, IA, Rick Dirks (Robin) of Akron, IA and David Dirks (Ellen) of Sioux City, IA; his grandchildren, Cary Granstrom (Joe LaFave), Jonathan Granstrom (Cecilia), Matthew Granstrom (Becky), Jessica Koedam (Justin), Ashley Hoskins (Adam), Kristin Radway (Cain), Jordan Bursell (Braxton), Daniel Dirks (Erin), Joey Manning, Emily Lande (Eric) and Katie Manning; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Bucholtz, Dory Tschantz, Diane Donnelly and Carol Donnelly; and his nephew Jan DeRoos. He is also survived by 20 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren.
