He was predeceased by: his mother Linda Hartzler (Yoder); and his grandparents, Don, Ruth Yoder, Ron and Anna Mae Hartzler.

He is survived by: his father Don Hartzler (Sue) of Iowa City, Iowa; his wife Molly Hartzler; his children, Kate of Ainsworth, Iowa, Jacob of Ainsworth, Iowa, Noah of Ainsworth, Iowa and Hannah of Ainsworth, Iowa; his siblings, Jocelyn Sadler (Nate) of Atkins, Iowa, Jon Hartzler (Maggie) of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Betsy Holub (Matt) of Johnston, Iowa, Dan Hartzler (Emily) of Iowa City, Iowa and Ali Galbraith (Jon) of Atkins, Iowa; his parents-in-law, Myron and Janet Rees of Ainsworth, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Joe Rees of Sand Coulee, Montana, Adam Rees (Rachel) of Iowa City, Iowa and Maggie Altenhofen (Schylor) of Kalona, Iowa. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home (116 E Main St, Washington, IA 52353). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 10:30 AM at 835 Park St, Ainsworth, IA 52201.
